A Little Weekend Lift

Brundage Mountain Biking

Brundage Mountain Biking

Up here, the air seems just a little bit clearer. The sky… a bit brighter.

We’re standing at the summit of Brundage Mountain — elevation 7,640 — ready to descend on a downhill mountain biking adventure. The best part is we’ve hardly done any peddling. Instead, we were whisked to the top of the mountain on a high-speed quad.

Our spirits are high. Our legs are fresh. And if our smiles were any bigger, they wouldn’t have fit on the chair.

Let’s do this.

Brundage features more than 20 miles of carefully-built mountain bike trails. There’s something for everyone, from swooping family-friendly trails to technical (and steep!) downhills for more skilled riders.

As for us, we’re stringing together a series of single-track somewhere in the middle.

We carve through meadows and tight timber, catching views of Long Valley and Payette Lake. Wildflowers. Creeks. Hawks. Jays.

It’s stunning.

Occasionally we pause for a hiker or two, but for the most part the trails feel like we have them to ourselves.

By the time we make it down to the lodge, I’m tired but still have enough in the tank to go again. We make a quick stop for beverages and some patio time before a quick peddle back to the lift.

What goes up, must come down…
