Winter Action spacer

If you just can’t seem to shake the passion you’ve had for playing in the snow since you were five, Southwest Idaho is the place for you.

It starts with two killer ski hills, but the fun doesn’t stop there. From ice-fishing to dog sled races to backcountry snowmobiling, Southwest Idaho makes it easy to get out and enjoy some outdoor fun. No wonder our largest city, Boise, was named the #1 Adventure City by National Geographic Adventure Magazine. Bottom line? You’re sure to find wintertime action.

Let’s get specific...

Downhill skiing & boarding: Here, hitting the slopes is easy. Choose between Brundage Mountain (350”+ average snowfall) in McCall or Bogus Basin, just 14 miles from downtown Boise. Both offer plenty of powder days, runs fit for every level of skier and full-service rental shops. In addition, Brundage offers some fabulous backcountry skiing overlooking beautiful Payette Lake.

Nordic skiing: Southwest Idaho offers more groomed Nordic Trails than you can shake a pole at. You’ll find them at Bogus Basin and throughout the Payette and Boise National Forests. In most instances, you’ll find convenient Park N’ Ski areas that are well-marked and easy to access.

Snowmobiling: Whether you want to race across a frozen lake or just enjoy a leisurely ride in the forest, you’ll find plenty of opportunities on the hundreds of miles of trails throughout Southwest Idaho’s mountain areas: McCall, Cascade, Garden Valley, Smith’s Ferry, Lowman, Featherville, and Idaho City. Enjoy a guided trip or explore on your own.

Sleigh Rides: Hey, not every minute can be action packed. But you might be surprised while sitting comfortably in your guided sleigh, how the sight of a majestic elk in its natural winter habitat gets your heart racing.

Ice skating: Love hockey? Ice skating? Curling? Hit the ice. Idaho Ice World in Boise or Manchester Ice & Event Centre in McCall offer a wide range of programs and activities.

Sledding: OK. So there’s a couple of ways to do this. You can just find a nice wooded hill near your cabin or hotel. Or you can head up to Bogus Basin or Southfork Landing in Garden Valley and take in their groomed tubing hills (complete with automated lifts) and enjoy all the speed without the effort.
